Ralph Cheramie Jr., a former middle school art teacher in Lafourche Parish, was convicted at a three-day trial in May 2024 of molestation of a juvenile, sexual battery of a victim under 13, and indecent behavior with a juvenile under 13 for abusing a student in 2009. On July 18, 2024, he was sentenced to concurrent terms totaling 40 years in prison.
